11 Scriptural Reasons Latter-day Saints should Support Marriage Equality

Marriage is Honorable in All

The Bible declares: “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge”
(Hebrews 13:4)

Millions of God’s Gay and Lesbian children are fighting for their right to enter honorable marriage. Growing millions of them are no longer willing to live the lifestyle of “whoremongers and adulterers” to which religion and society have traditionally consigned them.

One of the evils the apostle Paul prophesied for our "latter times" was "forbidding to marry" (see 1 Timothy 4:1, 3). Proposition 8 and other marriage laws and amendments have the ultimate result of forbidding millions of Americans to marry according to the dictates of their conscience and therefore contribute to this prophesied evil.  Is the Lord pleased if we Latter-day Saints and other Christians actively help bring about prophesied evil?

In modern times the Lord stated clearly, “And again, verily I say unto you, that whoso forbiddeth to marry is not ordained of God, for marriage is ordained of God unto man.”
(Doctrine and Covenants 49:15)

Can we say we believe or live this teaching of Jesus Christ if we vote to forbid millions of God’s children to marry? Does the Lord’s term “whoso” include us Latter-day Saints and other Christians? If we believe these words of the Lord, how can we seek to legislatively forbid (hinder or prevent) millions of our fellow citizens to marry and believe we are ordained of God to do so?
